The article quantifies the effects of different cooling methods on the resistance to chloride ion penetration in concrete produced with slag-modified cement and exposed to elevated temperatures. An experimental program was designed to evaluate the diffusion of chloride ions in different types of concrete before (25 °C) and after exposure to different levels of high temperature. Through this approach it is possible to understand that exposure to high temperatures can be a significant factor in the degradation of concrete, depending on its intensity and cooling procedures.
